This has given Russian forces the chance to make small but steady gains. It's one of 30 settlements that have seen heavy bombardment by Russian forces, Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov said on Monday. AdvertisementHolding on until Western aid comesMeanwhile, chronic delays in Western support has left Ukraine badly under-supplied in ammunition. Advertisement"This year represents a window of opportunity for Russia," military analyst Michael Kofman told the Times. "But if the Russian military is not able to turn these advantages into battlefield gains and generate momentum, there's a fair chance that this window will begin to close as we enter 2025."

Read previewUkraine's latest aerial attack on Russian soil is its farthest one yet, Ukrainska Pravda reported, with officials saying a drone traveled 930 miles to strike an oil refinery far inside Russia's borders. AdvertisementThe strike, which has not been independently confirmed, would represent a distance record in Ukraine's ever-more ambitious series of drone strikes on Russian energy facilities. In early April, Ukraine demonstrated its drones' increasing reach after Russian officials reported strikes 620 miles inside their country. Related storiesReports claim that the White House has reached out to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to signal its concern that hitting Russia's oil production will destabilize global energy prices. The strikes have also led to a surge in the price of refined oil products within Russia itself, they argued.

While the US dithered over aid, Ukraine had a robust argument for prosecuting the war pretty much as it pleased. "Taking out a particular refinery is not going to immediately undermine Russia's war effort," said Dailey, the RAND strategist. "But consistently putting pressure on Russia's oil sector would have a significant impact on Russia's ability to fight this war." AdvertisementVakulenko, in his article, also noted that that strikes on Russian oil refineries have "little impact on Russian export earnings." Later, Ukraine said that its attacks had reduced Russian oil production and processing by 12%.

NEW YORK (AP) — A new, higher-dose nasal spray for reversing opioid overdoses did not save more lives than the previous standard dose, but it did cause more vomiting and other side effects, researchers wrote in a study published Thursday. Three troops in eastern New York were given 8-milligram sprays. The study results were based on 354 instances in which troopers administered naloxone sprays from late March 2022 to mid-August 2023. But so too did those treated with the 8-milligram sprays, who got 1.58 doses, or 12.6 milligrams, on average. But other problems were significantly more common in the patients who got the higher-dose sprays.

Musicians from the early-music ensemble Collectio Musicorum were practicing a 17th-century round on a recent afternoon in Manhattan. The tune was jaunty, full of the cantering rhythms and mimetic horn calls that fit a song about hunting. But sung in canon, some of the notes bumped roughly against one another in daring dissonance. Jeff Dailey, the group’s director, glanced up encouragingly from his music stand. Remember, you’re drunk at this point.”The performers were preparing a program of songs, ballads and rounds from Shakespeare plays that brings to life the tunes scholars think might have been part of the earliest productions.

The Kremlin says Putin wants to act as mediator in the Israel-Hamas war. But Putin has little to gain from bringing an end to the conflict. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs violence erupted between Israel and Hamas this week, the Kremlin sought to cast Russian President Vladimir Putin in the role of peace broker. They say Putin has more to gain, not by bringing a swift end to the conflict, but by prolonging it to further Russia's strategic goals, notably in Ukraine. Abbas Gallyamov, a former speechwriter for Putin, told CBC News that Russia had become an "Iran proxy" in the region, like Hamas or Hezbollah.

John Blake: The story about race I didn't know how to tell
  + stars: | 2023-05-02 | by ( John Blake | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +14 min
John Blake, seen here in a second-grade photo, grew up as the son of a White mother and Black father. What I didn’t know was that my community had died long before the Freddie Gray protests. That’s the story I wanted to tell, but I didn’t know how. I didn’t know how to tell Harlow any of that because my story doesn’t fit traditional narratives about race or identity. My white family members didn’t change because I shamed them with an impressive lecture on systemic racism.

Sellers getting ready to list their homes for sale have been met with a lot of unwelcome news lately. Mortgage rates are rising, price cuts are happening and the pandemic-era buying frenzy is showing signs of cooling.
Mary Dailey created a simple Canva template for Airbnb hosts to use to make their own welcome signs. She had no design experience before and it takes her only an hour a day to tend to her Etsy shop. Dailey — a mother of two and part-time human-resources professional in Boone, North Carolina — runs an Etsy shop that specializes in "printables" for short-term rentals. It took just 90 minutes of work for Dailey to create one Canva template, for example, that has sold over 650 times for about $4 each. EtsyDailey started her Etsy shop in 2021Dailey's goal in launching her Etsy shop was to bring in extra income and flex her creative muscles.
On YouTube, tea, commentary, and drama channels share goings-on, feuds, and debates surrounding the most famous creators on the platform. Dustin Dailey has been posting videos to his eponymous YouTube channel for about five years. Jeffree Star and James Charles, two of the biggest beauty influencers in the world, have both faced allegations of sexual misconduct. "It used to be a lot of fun to just make videos because it used to be petty stuff." Charles has since faced allegations of grooming from several underage boys.
